On Saturday February 2nd starting at 6:30pm, there will be a community open mic at the Unitarian Universalist, 158 North Fourth Street in DeKalb. This event is open to the public for local talent to share their music, poetry, or other talent. It is part of the UUFD’s commitment to support local musicians, artists, writers, and crafters.
This will be the first of two open mics at the Unitarian in the month of February. The second will be Saturday evening Feb 16th.
This will be a coffeehouse style evening with tea, coffee, and light refreshments available. All local musicians who would like to have an opportunity to perform are encouraged to attend. The doors will open at 6:10pm.
“We hope this provides another venue for local musicians and poets to share their talents. We have so many very talented people in our community, we think it is important to give them more opportunities to share their art.” Said Dan Kenney, one of the organizers of the event.
“We are going to try it for two Saturdays to see how people respond, and then we will decide about continuing it.” Said Nathan Dettman another event organizer.
The organizers of the event especially wanted to provide more space and opportunities for acoustic musicians and to local poets. There are not many opportunities for local poets to read their own work before an audience. The organizers want to especially encourage local singer/song writers, poets and writers to come read their work.
