Tiny Tim, Christmas ghosts and Ebeneezer Scrooge will take the stage in the Charles Dickens classic “A Christmas Carol” at the Historic Sandwich Opera House starting Thursday for a limited engagement of 4 performances. The Indian Valley Theatre production runs this weekend only.
The story is a family favorite, and takes the audience on a journey of discovery and redemption as the true meaning of Christmas is revealed.
“This particular adaptation was one I wrote in an attempt to be as faithful to the Dickens novel as I could,” Pagoria said. “I modernized the setting a tad and brought the story into the current century, but the characters, messages and themes still hold strong.”
The timeless family production follows Ebeneezer Scrooge (Jim Oberg), a bitter, miserly soul who views Christmas as a time for finding yourself a year older, and not an hour richer, and responds to the concept of goodwill towards man with the legendary “Bah! Humbug!” Scrooge is visited by the ghosts of Christmas Past (Annie Shirley), Present (Michele Wade) and Future (Christopher Roe) and taken on a whirlwind tour of his life and a preview of the grim fate that awaits him if he continues in his misanthropic ways.
Will Scrooge learn his lessons before it’s too late?
One of the most poignant moments in any telling of “A Christmas Carol” occurs when Scrooge, as a young man, allows the true love of his life, Belle, to walk away forever while the elder Scrooge looks on. This touching moment is acted beautifully by David Zallis and Taylor Vicini as the young couple. Somonauk resident Jim Oberg will portray Scrooge.
Performances of “A Christmas Carol” are appropriate for theatre goers of all ages.
Performances begin at 7:00 p.m. December 8-10, and 2:00 p.m. on December 11. All tickets are $10 and can be purchased by visiting www.indianvalleytheatre.com, or at the door (based on availability).
The Thursday, December 8 performance will offer a special discounted ticket price. Patrons are asked to bring non-perishable food items for donation to the Franklin Mall Project. For every two items donated, $1 will be taken off the individual ticket price, with a limit of $5.00 off.
