DeKalb, IL—The DeKalb Park District is in the process of developing a Comprehensive Master Plan, which will provide recommendations for improvements over a five-year period. We want to hear from DeKalb residents! Opportunities exist to enrich the Park District‘s amenities and improve the quality of life for residents, visitors, and future generations. Please help by letting us know how we are doing and what you would like to see in the future.
The Park District has contracted the team of Hitchcock Design Group, Larson & Darby, Recreation Results, and aQity Research to lead a collaborative planning effort to prepare an updated Comprehensive Plan. The planning process will contribute to a prioritized implementation strategy, including chronological objectives that are attainable by the District within the next five years. This planning process combines both scientific analyses of the Park District’s amenities and facilities with the insight and information gathered from you. The end goal is consensus on preferred strategies and a roadmap for implementation that will guide the improvements to the Park District’s amenities and resources.
As part of the planning process, we are conducting a statistically valid survey to better understand how you and members of your household use the Park District and what you would like us to focus on in the future. To ensure accurate and unbiased results, the survey was mailed to a randomly selected group of households—not the entire community. If you receive a survey in the mail, we encourage you to share your feedback. Once the statistically valid response threshold is met, the survey will be made available online for everyone to participate. Please check our website in November if you did not receive a mailed survey but would still like to contribute.
We are also conducting a community focus group. Join us on Thursday, September 25 to share your feedback! Representatives from Hitchcock Design Group will be collecting community input about the Park District’s current offerings and what you would like to see in the future. The meeting will begin at 6:00 PM at Hopkins Community Center and will include a facilitated brainstorming session and prioritization workshop. Following the activity, participants will be invited to ask questions and provide additional written feedback.
The Comprehensive Master Plan will be completed in the spring of 2026 and will be available on the Park District’s website. For more information about the DeKalb Park District, visit dekalbparkdistrict.com or call (815) 758-6663.
