On Tuesday September 20, 2016, shortly after 7pm, the County’s 911 system went down for the entire DeKalb County area. The outage is wide spread which not only includes DeKalb County but several other neighboring counties. The DeKalb County 911 Coordinator along with the phone company are working to get the problem resolved. Until then, they are asking anyone who needs to contact the Sheriff’s Office with any emergency to call 818-895-2155, Sycamore Police 815-895-2123, Genoa Police 815-784-2526 or your local police agency. When the situation changes, an updated press release will be sent.

My goodness, what an uproar over an outage!! Seriously? Things break, or “go down”, and need repairs…I for one am glad to know up front what Plan B is and when to activate it in an emergency. Shocked at the outrage and nonsense posted regarding this “public service announcement”…having 911 doesn’t preclude me locking up my house, nor does having the system make me feel like my tax dollars are being wasted because of an equipment failure (or whatever). Such cynicism…Thank you, again, DeKalb County Online, for keeping me updated to this situation…
Lorraine – “well spent” as in having a 911 system in the 1st place? Or, “well spent” as in being able to get it fixed when it malfunctions?
I’m glad my taxes are well spent.
I just confirmed it’s still in effect; I work in a health care setting, and we NEED to know this info. Thanks for posting!!!
i have to admit after i heard that my doors where locked tight
You should probably lock them every night…
Please check your source. I think this was fixed around 1am
We’ve published an update but the system is still not fully operational. Our source is the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Dept.
STILL DOWN… and criminals could care less if there is 911 or not..
Nice thing to post for our criminals in the area.
Are you kidding?? Would you like them to not tell people and have them find out when they call 911? The phones were down, not the police. You can still call the police station.
Those of us who’ve had to call 911 appreciate knowing frankly….

Remember there was a time when 911 didn’t even exist. We all survived. Thanks for the update.
