In her first charitable endeavor, nine year-old Susana Martin has teamed up with Feed ‘Em Soup and other local businesses to collect and donate Halloween costumes for less fortunate kids in the community. Since Christmas and Thanksgiving are already popular holidays for giving, Ms. Martin wanted to focus on a kid-friendly holiday. Susana came up with the name “Halloween Costume Club” because, as Ms. Martin herself says, “All kids…like being part of a club.” We here at FES couldn’t agree more.
In the spirit of Ms. Martin’s fantastic idea, each kid will have a chance to choose a costume at no charge in Lexi’s Kids Corner during Wednesday night dinner services at Feed ‘Em Soup beginning October 9th. Costumes will also be donated to kids residing at Safe Passage and Hope Haven as well as YMCA scholarship families.
Beginning September 22nd, public donation boxes will be placed in Kishwaukee YMCA, Northern Illinois Dance Center, Feed ‘Em Soup headquarters, Sycamore Public Library, and Sycamore United Methodist Church. Donations of new or gently used Halloween costumes for all ages will be accepted. For more information contact Susana Martin by email at halloweencostumeclub@gmail.com.
