Pokanoka’s Cafe at Shabbona Lake State Park will host the 1st Annual Pokanoka’s Trail Run/Walk at Shabbona Lake State Park this Thursday, July 4th, 2013. The Trail Run/Walk will be a fundraising event for Safe Passage, DeKalb County’ Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Agency. The mission of Safe Passage is to reduce or prevent domestic violence and sexual assault.
The Trail Run will be approximately 7 miles long. The Run will be along wooded trails and open prairie lands, as the runners circle around scenic Shabbona Lake. The Walk will be a circle loop thru approximately 2 miles of historic woods in Shabbona Lake State Park. Shabbona Lake State Park is located in Southern DeKalb County approximately 25 miles Southwest of DeKalb, Illinois.
Choose the 8 miles trail for runners, or 1.8 mile trail for walkers through scenic, historical Shabbona Lake State Park. Both are on “off-road” trails on mowed pathways. The 8 mile Trail Race will be timed by RACE TIME, Inc. (www.racetime.info) from Winfield, Illinois, while the walkers leisurely walk at their own pace. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the following categories: Male, Female, Youth under 18. Each registered participant will receive a race T shirt.
Pokanoka’s Train Run / Walk begins at 9am and goes until noon. Sign up fees are : $25 for Runners and $10 for Walkers, when you sign up 7 days in advance. Late Registration for runners less than 7 days, will be $30.
The Park attracts approximately 445,000 visitors a year. The 7 mile Trail Race will be timed by RACE TIME, Inc. from Winfield, Illinois. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in the following categories: Male, Female, Youth under 18. Each preregistered participant will receive a race T shirt. Trail Walkers will leisurely walk the 2 miles at their own pace. Each pre registered walker will receive a walk T shirt. To register please visit www.pokanokasrun.com
Spend the whole day at Shabbona Lake! Participate in the Run/Walk event in morning, enjoy the great outdoors during the day, (picnicking, fishing, paddle boating, kayaking, hiking, camping or just relax and enjoy the scenery) and end the night with amazing fireworks over the lake!
