Valentine’s Day will creep up on us in the two weeks. In other words, the day of love is fast approaching, and you need ideas to plan your big date with your one true love, significant other, partner, or crush you’re hoping to ask out soon.
Go Out for Coffee
It’s easy and ordinary, but it’s a classic for a reason. If you’re both busy and want to fit some time in your day to hang out and appreciate each other, then set aside some time to go for coffee. It doesn’t matter if you two have been married for 45 years or if you just met yesterday; it’s an easy and flexible thing to schedule. Morning, lunch, afternoon, night? All good times to squeeze that date in there. We recommend Barb City Bagels and Cast Iron Coffee.
Have a Night Out at the Theater
Go out and support community theater. If you two decide to celebrate Valentine on a different day of the month, there are all sorts of events going on in the local theaters. Stage Coach Players will be releasing a production of The Vagina Monologues. The Egyptian Theater will be hosting events every week during this month, including, but not limited to, a “Boo’ze & Spirits Tours” and a production of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Check out their website to learn more.
Have Fun at the Arcade
You’re never too old to have fun. Embrace your inner child and go to an arcade with your date as if you are a youngster. Demolish your date at Mario Kart and win them a prize so you can righteously go up to the ticket counter. Just have fun; you like your significant other enough to go on a first date with them, and/or you like them enough to stay with them. Enjoy one and other’s company and show off your skills at a claw machine. We recommend Star Worlds Arcade or Old School Pizza.
Ax Throwing
You’re on this earth for a fun time, not a long time, so have you and your significant other enjoy that time throwing axes over in Sycamore at Northern Axeposure. Spend an hour or two embracing your inner lumberjack as you throw axes at a target. If it’s your first or second date, it will be sure to stick out in their minds, or even if you two have been together for a long time, it can be a fun skill to show off in the future. If you get injured, you’ll have a funny story to tell. There’s nothing that can go wrong with this date.
Netflix and Chill (Literally)
Maybe Netflix and Chill is good enough without needing anything to spice it up. Why leave the house? COVID is out there. Instead, you and your partner can cuddle up on a couch and watch A Knight’s Tale, 50 First Dates, Mr & Mrs. Smith, or Princess Bride together.
Go Ice Skating
We’re still in the middle of winter, which means we are still in the middle of the ice skating season. Want a fun night out and enjoy the last moments of winter? NIU is hosting a Valentine’s Day themed skate event with music and sweet treats. So bring your sweetheart and laugh as you fail together on the ice, or impress them with your skills. More information can be found at the event here.
Romantic Dinner
Treat yourselves! Go out to a restaurant with a pleasant atmosphere around town and relax. Have a good time, remind yourselves why the person you’re with is worthwhile. At DeKalb County Online, we recommend Hillside Restaurant, Remington Gastropub, and Tapa La Luna.
Loosen Up with a Drink
Visit one of the pubs in the area, relax, and drink. You are your S.O. like each one way or another. Drinking will only enhance it. Just make sure not to have too good of a time. We recommend Bryers Brewing Company, Hometown, and Pub 64.
Dance Together
You can either go out into the community or you and your date and set up your living room as a makeshift dance floor, play your favorite songs, and dance together. Be a little dorky; you two are in love, aren’t you? So loosen up, have a good time, and make your own private space for just the two of you.
Netflix and Chill (Naughty)
It’s Valentine’s Day. Have some fun, spice up your sex with a dildo from Lover’s Playground.
