UPDATE: I found a website for the new Shabbona Fireworks group. The following is from their History page:
The Shabbona Fireworks are an established tradition in many of the families of DeKalb County. Many come from far and near to sit on the shores of Lake Shabbona to watch a 30 minutes dazzling display...
The Shabbona Fireworks were first established over 25 years ago with a 'seed' donation from Myrtie Houghtby. The Community Events Association (CEA) raised additional funds and hosted the first Fireworks in 19??.
The CEA continued as the key organizer until the Shabbona Fire Department assumed responsibilty. Both organizations did an outstanding job, but recent budget considerations made it necessary to establish the Shabbona Fireworks Association in 2009.
And this was from their front page:
Everyone is welcome to participate with donations and involvement. This is billed as a “Unified Community Project” and regardless of your position on other community issues, residents can all work in harmony for continuing the wonderful tradition of fireworks in Shabbona for all to enjoy.
I'm all for Unified Community Projects, especially in this economy. I know that there are 'other community issues' going on in Shabbona in the past few years. But on this community issue, the citizens of Shabbona are showing their true colors. This is the town I sent my kids to school in. This is the kind of people I remember in that town. I'm personally glad to see them come together like this. Here's hoping the place is packed Saturday night and they collect lots of $10/car donations.
Volunteers and contributors are encouraged to contact them by emailing: SEND EMAIL .

The Village of Shabbona knows how to celebrate Independence Day. Join them this weekend for their 4th of July Celebration sponsored by the Shabbona Hometown Events Committee.
Saturday's fun starts with the Fire Department's Annual Pancake Breakfast from 7-11am. Craft booths, a Kids Bike Parade, Carnival Rides & Games, Food Vendors, Water Fights and more will be held at Dr. Purdy's lot on Navaho Street in Shabbona from 9am-4pm. New this year are Pony Rides, Interactive Games, Velcro Wall, Apple Go Round and a Down Pour Derby. If you need to stay strong until the Fireworks, join the Lions Club for their fabulous pork chop dinners at the Lions Depot at 4:30. Dance the night away at Nightcrawlers Bar and Grill, featuring "Blue Stone" live on Saturday evening.
At dusk on Saturday, the Shabbona Fireworks Organization presents it's first ever dynamic fireworks show over Lake Shabbona. A donation of $10 per car is appreciated at the entrance to the Lake. If you've never watched the fireworks at Lake Shabbona, this just might be the year you want to go there. Go early and pick a spot by the lake. It's a great, close-to-home, vacation-feel-spot.
On Sunday, July 5th, Shabbona is host to a wonderful Car Show, held at Screamers Ice Cream. Also on Sunday, will be the Shabbona Hometown Events Bags Tournament. $5 per person to play. Raffle style drawing will pick partners. For more information, GO TO SITE . So check out Shabbona this weekend, for excellent hometown fun!
